Chemically Eliminating Specific Memories: This Can Not Be Good News

Brain Researchers Open Door to Editing Memory NYTimes.com

Suppose scientists could erase certain memories by tinkering with a single substance in the brain. Could make you forget a chronic fear, a traumatic loss, even a bad habit.

Researchers in Brooklyn have recently accomplished comparable feats, with a single dose of an experimental drug delivered to areas of the brain critical for holding specific types of memory, like emotional associations, spatial knowledge or motor skills.

This is a really fascinating piece. I wonder if they might consider children in the long run along with placebo studies. The potential for help could be remarkable.
Thank you for the post, I'll defentantly keep my eye tuned.

I should preface by saying "IN NON' corruptive capable ethical hands this may work. Both children and adults "MAY" be helped with actual improved memory. Instead of seniors "struggling with age-related memory decline" And children with neurological issues that can implement this as a multifaceted approach. It could help. That's the particular part I'm fascinated in.

As for this possibility of memory editing or to erase or block memories of bad behavior, even of crimes. This part becomes frighteningly Orwellian to me.
